, 5 Reasons to Move to Collingwood

Collingwood is a breathtaking city located 2 ½ hours north of Toronto. It’s easy to see why it’s quickly becoming one of the most desirable places to live in the province. With the work-from-home trend on the rise, more and more young families and professionals are discovering the benefits of living in Collingwood. In fact, Maclean’s Magazine has rated it within the top 25 places to live in the entire country.

Should you make Collingwood your next home? Here are just a few reasons to consider it.

Collingwood is More Affordable than You Think

Collingwood is listed in the top five most expensive cities in Ontario and is home to several luxurious estates and resorts. But that is only a small part of the story. You’ll find people from all walks of life, including the vast majority of the Keleher + Co team! What makes it so appealing?

In spite of its reputation as a vacation destination, you can still find relatively affordable detached homes, condos and townhouses.

For example, if you wanted to buy a 3 bedroom detached house in Toronto right now, you’re looking at an average price of $1.5 million. Compare that with $922,000 in Collingwood, and it becomes clear why many Toronto residents are looking to the north.

A Treasure Trove of Natural Wonders

What could be better than living in a place that feels like you’re on vacation every day? The scenic limestone caves around the Niagara Escarpment are a must-see in the summer. The Collingwood Trails provide over 60 km of natural beauty for cyclists, joggers, cross country skiers and even commuters to enjoy every day. Looking to cool down during the hottest days of summer? Grab your swim shoes and wade into the beautiful rock beach at Sunset Point. If you’re up for a bit of a drive, the famous crystal blue Wasaga Beach is less than half an hour away.

Collingwood is Family Friendly

If you’re looking for a quiet, safe place to raise a family, look no further. According to Area Vibes, Collingwood has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire country. With the abundance of hiking trails, climbing gyms, and children’s play areas, including a giant 5000-square-foot indoor playground, you’ll never lack things to do.

When it comes to education, Collingwood offers some of the highest quality schools, as rated by the Frasier Institute. Residents have access to many public, private and Catholic elementary and secondary schools.

Careers and Investment Opportunities

Collingwood is a fantastic place for those who can now work from home and no longer have to drive to the office every day. But what about other opportunities? You may not realize it, but we are one of the most significant tech hubs in the province. There are four manufacturing companies, a data security company and even a virtual reality and software development firm. Young professionals will find practically unlimited opportunities for high-paying careers in technology and the skilled trades.

In addition, Collingwood has been named the top small town in Ontario for entrepreneurship, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). Not bad for a town with a population of fewer than 25,000 people!

Endless Recreational Opportunities

It may be hard to believe, but the joy of Collingwood doesn’t stop with its natural wonders. We are famous for some of our world-class ski resorts, luxurious spas and top-notch golf courses. In addition, there are many exciting festivals and events to look forward to every year.

The Collingwood Music Festival kicks off in July and features a refreshing mix of classical and jazz artists and ensembles.

The excitement continues as the weather turns cold with the Art of Winter Festival in late January or early February. This free event lets kids and the young at heart enjoy the snowy season with activities like snowman making, snow sculpting, shinny and snowshoeing.

There are many fun activities and amenities to enjoy, even when you’re not hitting up a famous ski resort or attending a festival. You’ll find hundreds of cuisine options ranging from fast food and family restaurants to fine dining and healthy cafes.

If you have an afternoon to spare, take a walk down Main Street and explore the historical buildings that now host a variety of independent stores, boutiques and coffee shops. There’s even a Farmer’s Market every Saturday from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving.

Keleher + Co Special Events

Keleher + Co also hosts a few fun-tastic events throughout the year. For example, check out our Movie Morning in the spring or summer, where we feature the season’s best family-friendly movie at the Collingwood Galaxy Theatre. What could possibly beat a free movie when it comes to entertainment?

We are up for the challenge. During the Fall Festival, the party is on in Chris and Terri Keleher’s backyard. We partner with local contributors to provide your family with a free, fun-filled day.
