Owning a winter or year-round place in the Bahamas is a popular trend for Canadians right now.

According to a Globe & Mail article Canadians now own an estimated 30% of the 90 $4-million to $20-million homes at Ocean Club Estates on Paradise Island.

This interest in the Bahamas is due mainly to the non commercial, serene lifestyle and taxes. Anyone who qualifies as a resident from Canada is exempt from income taxes on money earned and from taxes on interest income.

The demand for ultra-high-end homes has attracted experienced Canadian real-estate developers who have launched projects targeting wealthy Canadians. These include Serenity Point on Great Abaco and The Beach Club Villas on Paradise Island.
