Collingwood’s Frozen in Time Festival – From December 27 to January 3 downtown Collingwood will host the annual Ice Sculpture Celebration and Winter Wonderland Village.
The Ice Sculpture Celebration has grown now features more than 30 sculptures throughout downtown Collingwood. This year the ice sculptures will celebrate iconic images and significant moments in Collingwood’s rich history. Adding to the festive atmosphere downtown, the statues are colourfully lit and history panels next to each carving will share the story of Collingwood.
Watching the creation of these spectacular ice sculptures is part of the fun. The sculptures will arrive on Sunday, December 27, and it will be a day of construction as the sculptures are assembled. Ice carving demonstrations by world renowned ice carvers will also take place daily between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in front of the Federal Building.
The Winter Wonderland Village is back for a second year at the Pine Street Central market square. From December 28 to December 31, Pine Street Central will be filled with tents, cabins and activities for families. The highlight will be the Battle of the Chainsaws on the Celebration Station, taking place every day at noon. Watch incredible artists use chain saws to carve statues from blocks of ice, with a few extra twists.
A crackling fire in the middle of the Winter Wonderland Village will keep you cozy while you watch the performing artists and musicians. The Sugar Plum Pavilion will also have arts and craft events like the popular gingerbread village building, bird house construction, a colouring station and a toy station.
Another addition to the event this year is the Healthy Kids Community Challenge Activity Zones. Three different activity zones will keep kids of all ages active with games of shinny, an obstacle course and the famous ice block building area. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join in!
Don’t miss the Cocoa Cabin with free hot chocolate and apple cider to keep everyone warm and refreshed between breaks from all the fun.
