Collingwood will be hosting its first harbour festival from Saturday August 1st to Monday August 3rd, 2015.  Sidelaunch Days is a three-day festival celebrating South Georgian Bay and commemorating the shipbuilding heritage of Collingwood.

What’s Happening….

sup-racesStand Up Paddling (SUP) Races & Demos – August 1 – Collingwood Harbour
The Ontario Summer Splash SUP Race Series stops in Collingwood featuring demos and races through Collingwood Harbour. Four distance races throughout Collingwood’s Harbour gives paddlers of all abilities a chance to try it out. Register at ontariosupseries.com

Long Distance SUP Races August 1 – 11 am to 12 pm
Sprints SUP Races August 1 – 2 pm to 3 pm

Water Sport Demonstrations & Tryouts – August 1 – 10 am to 4 pm – Launch Basin Tryout Dock
Featuring the Collingwood Watts Skiff Club’s Endurable I, the Collingwood Dragonboat & Canoe Club, and the Summer Splash Series SUP sponsors.

View the regatta harbour side and hear live commentary from the Amphitheatre.

 

Side Launch Brewery Dockside Bar & History Lounge – August 1 & 2 – 12 pm to 8 pm
Heritage Drive
Enjoy South Georgian Bay’s only dockside bar August 1-2. Showcasing Side Launch Brewery’s local craft beers, and view of the historic harbour. Photos, artifacts and more are a tribute to the women and men who worked at the Collingwood Shipyards. Inspired by historical author George Czerny.

Kitefest – August 3 – 12 pm to 5 pm – Millennium Park
Kitefest & Professional Flying Demonstrations – Bring your own kite or pick up a complimentary one on site and enjoy the winds at Millennium Park.

Collingwood Art & Music Festival – August 1, 9 am – 5 pm / August 2, 10 am – 4 pm – The Station Museum grounds- 45 St. Paul Street
CAMF is an annual event held at the Collingwood Museum grounds. Free workshops, demonstrations and the work of over 30 artists and artisans AND live music including the Jim Kinnear Trio and other local musicians. Presented by the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts. BMFA Event Details

Future of Jazz & Blues Concert – August 2 – 2 pm – TD Canada Trust, 186 Hurontario Street
A concert in Downtown Collingwood featuring young Collingwood Jazz and Blues artists. Presented by the Collingwood Jazz & Blues Society.

Piano Street Jam – August 1 & 2 – 5 pm – Start at Federal Building, Downtown
Follow 2 well-known local pianists as they try out 7 pianos located around the Collingwood downtown core – and if you love to play, the pianos invite you to ‘play me’.

Collingwood Museum Exhibits – August 1, 2 & 3 – 9 am to 5 pm -Collingwood Museum, 45 St. Paul Street
Explore the history of Collingwood and enjoy a variety of exhibits. Set sail with 150 years of marine heritage. Get a “behind the scenes” tour every 1/2 hour from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

AT SEA Grain Elevator Art Projection Project – August 1 & 2 – 9 pm to 11 pm
Millenium Park
Part I & Part II Millennium Park – First ever AT SEA is a project by Toronto-based independent curator Yasmin Nurming- Por. Over two evenings, two different projections on the north side of the terminal buildings will activate Collingwood’s shipyards archive and contribute to the memory of Collingwood’s industrial past through the use of moving and still images sourced from the Collingwood Museum.

Waterside Yoga Session – August 2 – 10 am to 11 am – Millenium Park
Buddha Rider – free outdoor Yoga session for all, based on their signature The Gentle Stretch class. Located on the grass field at Millennium Park. Mats will be provided.

Kids Kite & Kraft Centre – August 1, 2, & 3 – 10 am to 4 pm
Waterfront Promenade
Complimentary face painting and balloon sculpting. Be sure to decorate a complimentary kite to fly at Monday’s Kitefest!

Collingwood Cheercore Demonstrations August 2 – 2 pm to 3 pm, Amphitheatre
National champion Collingwood Cheercore will cheer on the Sailing Regatta on Sunday.

Collingwood Harbour Tours by Summer Bound – August 1, 2 & 3 – 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm
Sunset Cruise 7:30 pm – Collingwood Harbour
One hour narrated tour that roams the waters that once launched 250m ships. $10 per person, children 12 and under free. Sunset cruise is 1.5hrs in length. All tours depart from 15 Heritage Drive beside the launch ramps on the road to the terminals.
